India’s 5G Smartphone Shipment Reports 57% Growth in Q3

India’s 5G smartphone shipment reports 57% growth in the third quarter (Q3) of this year, registering a 78% increase on a YoY. According to CyberMedia Research (CMR), Samsung continues to lead the 5G smartphone market with a market share of 23%, while ViVo secured second position with a 16% market share. During the third quarter of 2023, $11 billion worth of 5G smartphones were shipped.

According to CyberMedia Research (CMR), Samsung continues to lead the 5G smartphone market with a market share of 23%, while ViVo secured second position with a 16% market share. During the third quarter of 2023, $11 billion worth of 5G smartphones were shipped.

Shipra Sinha, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, stated that the 5G smartphone market maintains its growth with 44 new launches and a 57% market share. Foldable smartphones have noticed remarkable growth, doubling on a YoY basis. Moreover, the 4G feature phones showed promising growth, led by the demand for companion devices in urban India. 


While the Indian smartphone market maintained its steady growth, it saw a slight decline of around one percent, the report also stated.

In the value-for-money smartphone segment, devices fall under the budget range from Rs 7,000 to Rs 25,000, accounting for 69%. Despite such numbers, the shipment decreased by 11% YoY. The affordable smartphone segment, below Rs 7,000, saw a remarkable growth of 78% YoY. 


Additionally, the premium smartphone category, Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000, experienced 11% YoY growth. In contrast, the super-premium smartphone segment, Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000, and the uber premium segment, Rs 1,00,000 above, saw outlandish YoY growth of 87% and 136%, respectively. 


Apple gained a 6% market share in the smartphone market in Q3. It offered attractive deals on previous-generation smartphones that increased its shipment by 44%. The 4G feature phone shipment saw a massive growth of 300% during the third quarter of the year. The segment was primarily led by JioBharat K1 Karbonn and JioBharat V2, collectively capturing a market share of 63%. 


The market of feature phones declined by 6% on a YoY basis, and the shipments of 2G feature phones also decreased by 27%. According to analysts, the smartphone shipments market had a slight overall decrease of 1%-2% for an entire year.

 

The report states that the overall smartphone shipments in 2024 will likely grow by 8%-9%, while the 5G shipments can grow by 40% YoY.
